"The Lookout"

Last fall I hiked up a ridge line that I had never explored. I hadn't really expected anything great as I had always thought it was a pretty non-impressive area. It was right before sunset and so I figured perhaps I could catch a nice sky before dark. After hiking up a long ways I happened to glance back for the first real time. To my surprise the glow of the sun had illuminated the clouds red. Contrasted against the deep blue of the valley it became this extraordinary scene! I was on a nice little shelf at the time and thought, "I wonder how many critters have sat here and and looked over." I became inspired to paint this scene.
