"The Calling"
High up in the mountains, far away from any human contact there exists a serene-like feeling that one can only experience by hiking miles off the beaten path. Many times I've hiked through seemingly endless forested country only to step out into an open such as the one depicted in this painting. This place doesn't exist literally, but instead exists only in my imagination. I'm so inspired by the feeling I get while exploring the back-country and I wanted to capture that feeling in a painting. The valley is as calm as could be after a recent rain shower, indicated by the steam rising from all the low areas. A lone wolf breaks the silence while calling out to any others who might be nearby. The sun's rays break through the clouds and mountain peaks, calling out to all of us. I wanted this painting to spark that urge inside of us that makes us want to get out and explore life. The mountains are calling for you. Can you hear it?

Chuck Black is by far the best artist ever and to be. God created all the beauty in this world and gave Chuck the ability to paint it as it was meant to be painted. The details, lighting, and color he puts in all of his paintings shows his devotion in each and every one of his paintings.
“The Calling” is the second piece I have bought, and defiantly not the last, and it hangs on my wall for me to get lost in, and I do, anytime I want. Thank you, Chuck, for being Gods instrument in bringing his beauty to life, as only you can, for people like me to see and enjoy it when we can’t in person.

It is not easy to find the words to describe the exquisite beauty of "The Calling". This painting is the most eye-catching depiction of nature that I have seen. Chuck Black possesses a genius in the use of indirect lighting to highlight a breathtaking view of a rock-strewn creek. This light passes through mountain mist that presents an ethereal, and at the same time, very realistic scene. The greatest highlight is the presentation of a diminuatively depicted wolf. True to nature, the animal blends into his surroundings, a mysterious member of the great world of Nature.
