About this painting:
Bears have always intrigued me. I've had many encounters with them throughout my life and time spent in the wilderness. The one thing that I've learned is that no matter what's on a bear's mind, they're sure to be persistent to get the task at hand accomplished. Some of these encounters have been beautiful, and others have been downright scary. I'll never forget the moment I turned around on the trail only to have a 200 lb boar just 3 yards behind me. The respect I have for these magnificent animals is something I couldn't even begin to describe with words.
I wanted to honor the bear family in this painting I titled "Persistence." I chose the grizzly bear as my subject in this piece. The valley where I live in Southwest Montana spans dozens of miles through wide open plains and brush-covered waterways. The horizons are filled with distant mountain ranges and gloomy foothills. A lone boar stands in the middle of creek on a quiet evening as the sun sets, hoping for a fish dinner that has yet to come. No matter the outcome, this gorgeous beast is sure to remain persistent well into the night to ensure his health and well being. The persistence of these great animals give us a small glimpse of just how powerful and amazing Mother Nature really is.
